A global issue
The climate crisis related to human activities has several faces. The most prominent problem is the carbon emissions from fossil fuels causing rising temperatures, flooding and extreme heat. Whereas this challenge is arguably the most urgent, it also seems to be solvable with technology shifts to wind, solar and nuclear.
Two other major challenges originating from human activity are the biodiversity issue and the overconsumption and as a consequence excess waste issues.
Overconsumption
The issue of overconsumption could be attributed to humans constantly replacing and throwing out well functioning things with new things. How can we illustrate the issue in a constructive way? Perhaps even beautiful? How can we make people realize the issue and think about possible steps towards improvement?
A positive perspective
The discussion about climate change has become negative and in many cases, people lack inspiration and knowledge. Overconsumption is part of the big problem on why so much waste exists. We want to inspire consumers to not just think of overconsumption more thoughtfully, but to also take these thoughts with them in their daily lives and act upon it. We also want to give artists, who for many decades have been working hard to create this awareness through their art, a means to be seen by a broader audience, to be heard and supported by the funding as well as cooperations.
Plastic as the main symbol
Plastic is a significant symbol of overconsumption because it is used for products as well as packaging. It is resourceful to manufacture, it contains unwanted chemicals and it causes loss of visual value, practical problems in oceans and health related issues for wildlife and humans.
Purpose - Mission
We want to inspire and empower Europeans to focus on a life with more focus on love, emotions and beauty and less on consumption.
Vision - A multinational European Union exhibition
Several European artists already created high quality art pieces based on waste plastic symbolizing the significant challenges involved in plastic production, usage and waste management.
We suggest combining art pieces by artists from several European countries into an exhibition that can be offered to art museums across Europe.
